Team Delmarva has seven current MD and DE high school champions among its members and had four MD state champions last year as well.

 

2008

JOE WATERS

Wicomico

Joe won a 6-2 decision over previously undefeated Mike Santiago of Oakland Mill sin his final after beating former MSWA #1 Sean Silser of Southern Garrett 2-0 in the semi-finals. Joe was a NHSCA All-American in 2007 with a 5th place showing at Junior Nationals and defeated 3 state champions in doing so. He is now deciding his collegiate options of Maryland, Delaware State, Millersville and McDaniel. Video of his finals match can be seen here.

 

LESTER ANDREWS

Mardela

Lester followed up his 2007 State Championship with another in 2008, and took a tough road to do it. Entering as a #2 seed, Lester faced Jakob Scheffel of Souther Garrett in the second round, winning a 3-1 decision. He defeated Nathan White of River Hill in the final, 6-3, to cap off a 26-1 year.  Video of his final can be found here.

SKYLAR SNEAD

Stephen Decatur

Skylar put on quite the show at states. Of his 4 wins, 1 was a pin, 1 was a tech, 1 was a major and the other was a 7 point decision. He executed 4 throws in the finals to score 20 points in less than 3 minutes! Skylar will wrestle for Messiah College in PA starting next year. Video of his final may be found here.

 

DANNY MILLER

Stephen Decatur

Danny followed up his state championship as a 10th grader with another as an 11th grader. Competing in arguably the toughest weight class in the state for public schools, Danny won a region with another state champ and 3 other placers just to get to states, then won each of his s4 state matches by at least 6 points, including a pin a pin the semi-finals. Danny comes back for one more year at Stephen Decatur to try for a three-peat. Video of his finals match can be found here.

LESTER ANDREWS

MARDELA

Lester Andrews pinned Chris Norman of Randallstown in 2:21, defeated Jim Reilley of Smithsburg by decision and beat Aaron Patterson of Beall by major decision to reach the state finals, where he pinned top-ranked Danny Bichner of Glenelg in 2:50.

 

TREVOR RICKETT

STEPHEN DECATUR

After defeating Paul Jerry of Surratsville, Lance Coles of Randallstown and Clarksburg's Tanner Wrublik, Rickett faced his toughest competition in the championship match in top-ranked Tyler Strube, who was 41-0 this season before facing the Decatur senior. Rickett pulled off the upset with a 4-1 win.

DANNY MILLER

STEPHEN DECATUR

Miller first defeated Joe Camlin of Winters Mill with a pin in 5:26, Brian Nance of Atholton by decision and Jeremy Harbaugh of Smithsburg by decision before wrestling Queen Anne's senior Patrick Klenkel to a 3-2, four-overtime decision for Decatur's first-ever wrestling state championship, followed quickly by Rickett's win less than an hour later.

JAMES M. BENNETT

Dorsey defeated Tyler Smith of Bowie in a major decision, pinned Franklin's Vincent Crocker and outlasted La Plata's Jake Schilling 7-5 to reach the 3A/4A 112-pound championship, where he made short order of Huntingtown's Daniel Justice, pinning in 1:46. Dorsey is Bennett's first state champion wrestler since Vernon Knox's 1992 title.
